There is a powerful side to Hollywood most people ignore or take for granted. We know about the writers, directors and even the producers who work behind the camera, but little attention is given to the people who make the film come alive.

From props, sets, to fashion there are a number of careers that are just as fulfilling as acting in front of the camera.

One of my favorite Behind the Camera individuals is twice Oscar Nominee for Fashion, Ruth Carter. I've never met her but I've followed her career.

2015 Carter was nominated for CDG (Costume Design Guild) for Excellence in Period Film, "Selma."

1998 Carter was nominated for the Academy Award, Best Costume Design "Amistad" (1997). And in 1993 she was nominated for the Oscar for Best Costume Design, "Malcolm" (1992).
